Popular setups include 4S FPV batteries for 5-inch freestyle/racing and 6S FPV batteries for 7–10 inch long-range/cinematic builds. For maximum energy density, check LiHV FPV batteries. 1S=3.7V · 2S=7.4V · 3S=11.1V · 4S=14.8V · 6S=22.2V.
Both LiPo and Li-ion batteries have their own safety considerations, and the choice between them often depends on the specific requirements of the application. Li-ion batteries, with their higher energy density and robust protection mechanisms, are generally considered safer for high-energy and consumer applications.
How to choose a battery for FPV?
For Most FPV Racing Drones: A 6S LiPo battery (22.2V nominal) is generally recommended if your drone's electronics are rated accordingly. For Smaller or Lightweight Drones: A 4S battery (14.8V nominal) might be more appropriate to keep the system light and maintain agile handling.
Why don't you leave LiPo batteries fully charged?
Any more or less energy in the cell will cause the battery to slowly degrade and lose efficiency. This is also why it is important to charge or discharge your batteries back to storage voltage shortly after using them. The usable voltage range for a standard lipo battery cell is 3.2v to 4.2v.
